The E3ZG-LS81-DO is a Distance-Setting Photoelectric Sensor that utilizes Time of Flight (TOF) technology. Unlike standard photoelectric sensors that rely on light intensity (which varies with object color and gloss), the TOF method calculates distance based on the time it takes for a light pulse to return to the sensor.
